Questions to ask an astrologer
Last updated
The right question turns a vague reading into a useful one. Below are strong questions for each area of life, the questions worth asking about the astrologer before you book, and the few that are best left alone.
How to ask a question that gets a useful answer
The quality of a reading depends heavily on the question. Astrologers read tendencies and timing from a chart, so the most useful questions are specific, have a time frame and leave room for an honest “it depends”.
- Give context. “I have two job offers, one in Bengaluru and one in Dubai” lets the astrologer compare real options.
- Add a time frame. “In the next two years” produces a far more concrete answer than “ever”.
- Ask “when” and “how”, not only “will”. “When is a good period to change jobs, and what should I focus on?” beats “Will I get a new job?”
- One topic at a time. Three well-explored questions are worth more than fifteen quick ones.
- Ask why. “Which part of the chart shows that?” keeps the reading grounded and helps you judge the astrologer.
Weak: “Will I be rich?” Strong: “Which of the next five years look best for growing my income, and is my chart more suited to a salary or a business?”
Questions to ask an astrologer about career and work
Career questions work best when you say what is actually on the table: an offer, a business idea, a course, a move.
- Which kinds of work suit my chart: steady employment, my own business, or something creative or public-facing?
- Is the next year or two a better period for staying and building, or for changing roles?
- I have an offer from another company. Does the timing support a move now, or would waiting six months be wiser?
- When does my current dasha or major period change, and what does that change mean for work?
- Is a job or study abroad indicated, and in which period?
Questions to ask an astrologer about marriage and love
Ask about timing and patterns rather than a name, and if you are already in a relationship, bring both people's birth details.
- Which periods in the next few years are most supportive for marriage?
- What qualities in a partner does my chart suggest I will be happiest with?
- Are there recurring patterns in my relationships that the chart helps explain?
- We want to marry. Beyond the guna score, how compatible are our charts on temperament, family life and finances?
- Is there anything in my chart, such as Mangal dosha, that I should understand properly rather than fear?
Questions to ask an astrologer about money and property
Astrology can speak to timing and temperament with money; it cannot tell you which share or plot to buy.
- Which periods look stronger for income growth, and which call for caution with spending or loans?
- Is this a reasonable time to buy a house, or should I wait for a better period?
- Do I tend to earn through a salary, a business or investments, according to my chart?
- Can you suggest an auspicious date (muhurta) for registering the property or moving in?
Questions to ask an astrologer about health and wellbeing
A responsible astrologer will talk about periods of strain and self-care, never diagnose an illness or tell you to stop treatment.
- Which periods ask me to take more care of my energy and routine?
- What kind of daily discipline or practice does my chart suggest would help me most?
- Is there a calmer period coming that suits a rest, a retreat or a change of routine?
Questions to ask an astrologer about children and family
For a child's chart, ask about temperament and how to support them, not for a fixed destiny.
- What does my child's chart say about their temperament and how they learn best?
- Which periods are favourable for starting a family?
- How can I understand and get along better with a parent or sibling, given our two charts?
Questions to ask an astrologer about education
Students get the most from questions about aptitude and timing that they can act on.
- Which subjects or fields match my strengths: science, commerce, arts, something practical?
- Is the coming year a good time to take a competitive exam, or would the year after be stronger?
- Is higher study abroad supported, and when?
Questions to ask about the astrologer before you book
These are fair questions to ask any astrologer, and a good one will answer them without fuss:
- Which tradition do you follow, and how did you learn it?
- What do you need from me: exact birth time, place, a photo of an old horoscope?
- How long is the session, what does it cost, and are follow-up questions included?
- Can I record the session or receive written notes?
- If you suggest remedies, are they things I can do myself, and do you sell any of them?

Questions that rarely help
- “When will I die?” Responsible astrologers decline to answer this, and any answer would only cause fear.
- Questions about another adult without their consent, such as whether an ex-partner will come back.
- Exact numbers: lottery results, share prices, exam marks.
- Questions that hand the decision over completely. “Should I marry this person?” is a decision for you and your family; ask instead what the charts say about compatibility and timing.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best question to ask an astrologer?
The best questions are specific, have a time frame and concern a decision you actually face, for example: which of the next two years is better for changing jobs, and what should I focus on? Questions that ask when and how produce more useful answers than yes-or-no questions.
How many questions can I ask in one astrology session?
In a typical hour-long consultation, two to five questions can be explored properly. Many astrologers price single-question readings separately. Put your questions in priority order so the most important ones are covered first.
What should I not ask an astrologer?
Avoid asking about the date of death, about another adult without their consent, for lottery or share-price numbers, or for the astrologer to make a life decision for you. Responsible astrologers decline these questions.
